on september 15, 2011 we said goodbye to our beloved gatsby. his back legs became paralyzed and then his nervous system just shut down. we still have no clear idea why he got sick. having to explain to a 4-year old that one of his dogs was gone was one of the hardest things i’ve had to do. it wasn’t until a week later, when we received a sympathy card from our vet, that the little guy really understood. i heard him sobbing from the other room, ran in, and asked what happened. he just pointed to card and said, “i miss gatsby.” broke my heart. {sigh}

we miss you and love you forever, gatsby.
